How should you prepare for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan?

 

Before your visit

  • Check for any contraindications to the MRI scan
  • If the scan is with contrast – have your creatinine level tested (result valid for up to 30 days)

On the day of the scan

  • Arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment
  • Wear clothing without metal elements in the area being examined

On site

  • Use the changing room (leave personal belongings, change clothes if necessary)

If the scan is with contrast

  • Do not eat for 3 hours before the scan
  • Do not drink for 1 hour before the scan

Documents

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • a document confirming your identity (ID card or passport)
  • a referral (if applicable)
  • results of previous imaging tests of the examined anatomical area (CDs and reports)
  • medical documentation regarding any foreign bodies in the body confirming there are no contraindications for the scan (if the patient has any implants, prostheses, or other metal objects)
  • a creatinine test result not older than 30 days (for scans with contrast)
